Information tool

What is an informative tool?
As per my perception, informative tools can be understood as a tool that provides various information in different formats such as graphics, videos, animations, etc. Informative tools can be used in the class to have a conducive learning environment and to make the students understand the concept better. The tools can be used at the beginning, middle or at the end of the lesson depending upon the appropriateness. For example, to teach the concept of “Parts of Body, for the primary children the teacher might use videos and audios to introduce the lesson. Then use images and texts for the learning activity and finally audios such as songs and rhymes to conclude the lesson.

There are six types of informative tool:

1. Audio

Using audio or sound to teach can help the students especially the one who are auditory learners. I feel that it will also motivate the learners to actively participate in the teaching-learning process. Some of the examples of audio as a tool are music, rhymes, voice narration, etc.

2. Images
In a class there are different types of learners, some might be auditory, some kinesthetic, and some visual learners. Videos and images can be very effective for visual learners. I feel that through images students will be able to see the things which could be difficult otherwise. For instance, in the southern parts of the country, there may be some students who would not have seen yaks. So, through images students will be able to learn the features of the yaks.

3. Animation
Animation is defined as the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence. Though it can be used for all the learners depending upon the concept to be discussed, I feel that it will be most effective for the primary students who love animation. Nowadays, rhymes, songs, and other primary topics come in animation so as to help the children learn better.

4. Graphics
Graphic is a combination of text, images, video, audio, and animation. So, if using a single tool such as video can be effective, I feel that using graphic can help to include all types of learners regardless of their learning styles. For example, to teach the concept of flower, the teacher can use images of flower, videos on the importance of flowers along with audio and text.

 5. Text
I personally feel that text plays a very important role in making the students understand the concept better. The reason is that in this 21st century, not knowing how to read and write is no better than animals. So, images and videos might help the students learn the concept better but without the knowledge of text one cannot express their feelings, Therefore, importance must also be given to the text in the process of teaching and learning.

6. Video

Video can be defined as a program, movie, or other visual media product featuring moving images, with or without audio, that is recorded and saved digitally. In this 21st century, video can play a very effective role in teaching the concept to the students because it will help the students see the past, future and make the students actively participate. Moreover, I feel that if the concept cannot be taught properly through verbal explanation, video can be one of the most effective ways. Teaching the concept of photosynthesis through video lesson can be one example.
